Our approach
Therapeutic care built around the whole boy.
At Peaceful Guidance, we believe that healing happens in relationship — with trusted adults, with peers, and with a structured environment that feels safe enough to grow in. Our approach blends evidence-informed therapy with the rhythms of a real home.
Therapeutic model
Trauma-informed. Relationship-centered. Strengths-based.
Our therapeutic model is grounded in trauma-informed care principles, recognizing that many of the boys we serve have experienced significant adversity. We focus on building safety, trust, and self-regulation before addressing deeper behavioral or emotional challenges. Every intervention is designed to build on a young person's existing strengths rather than simply manage symptoms.
Trauma-informed care
We understand that behavior is communication. Our staff are trained to respond to dysregulation with curiosity and calm rather than punishment.
Individualized treatment planning
Each resident has a treatment plan developed collaboratively with his therapist, care team, family, and — where appropriate — the young person himself.
Strengths-based practice
We identify and build on each boy's capabilities, interests, and resilience rather than focusing solely on deficits or diagnoses.
Family engagement
Families are partners in care. We maintain regular communication and work toward reunification or permanency as a central goal wherever possible.
Daily structure
Consistency and routine as a foundation for growth.
Research consistently shows that predictable structure helps young people who have experienced trauma feel safe. Our daily schedule balances therapeutic programming, academic support, physical activity, and unstructured time — giving boys the stability they need while honoring their individuality.
Morning routine
Consistent wake times, personal hygiene, and a shared breakfast build the rhythm of the day.
Academic support
Boys receive individualized academic support aligned with their school placement and educational goals.
Therapeutic programming
Individual therapy, group sessions, and skill-building activities are woven throughout the week.
Physical activity
Outdoor time, recreation, and physical activity are built into every day — supporting regulation and wellbeing.
Evening wind-down
Structured evenings with consistent bedtime routines help boys develop self-regulation and sleep hygiene.
Community meals
Shared meals are a cornerstone of our home environment — a time for connection, conversation, and belonging.
Safety practices
A safe environment is non-negotiable.
The physical and emotional safety of every resident is our highest priority. We maintain low staff-to-resident ratios, use de-escalation as our first and preferred response, and operate with clear, consistent expectations that residents help shape.
Our safety commitments
- Low staff-to-resident ratios at all times
- De-escalation-first approach — restraint is a last resort
- DBHDS-licensed and regularly reviewed
- Clear, consistent expectations co-developed with residents
- 24-hour supervision by trained residential staff
- Regular safety reviews and incident debriefs
Individualized support
No two boys are the same. Neither are their plans.
From the moment a young person arrives, we begin building a picture of who he is — his history, his strengths, his goals, and what he needs to thrive. Treatment plans are living documents, reviewed regularly and updated as he grows. Progress is celebrated, setbacks are met with compassion, and every boy is seen as capable of change.
